The slight curl of his upper lip, brought on by a smile, and the slow, drown out wink of his eye, captures the attention of the ladies in the audience. Or maybe it’s his sexy English accent, the cherry on top of the feel-good compliments he hands out to while he is on the prowl for his next catch.

The mere fact that he has obviously mastered the art and game of winning the hearts of all women, young and old, captures the attention of the gentlemen in the audience. I wouldn’t have been too incredibly surprised to see young, aspiring guys in the audience taking notes on how to pick up girls. And it’s the stream of gorgeous women he captivates day in and day out that keeps the guys watching – each one a little more well-endowed and radiant than the last.

Alfie, played by Jude Law, is a New York City limo driver. Dressed in only the highest thread count button-downs and the best cut suits, Alfie parades around the city with women eating out of the palm of his hand. In one scene, his smooth suaveness convinces his elderly female neighbor to clean his apartment for him while he is out on the town, simply because, well, he is Alfie and Alfie knows how to charm.

Through a commentary type monologue, Alfie thinks out loud, allowing the audience to hear what is going through his mind when he is doing what he does best – womanizing women. He shares the reason he’ll dump one girl for the next, who he thinks is truly beautiful and who he thinks spent enough money for an A+ boob job but walked away with C- results. He discloses how he secretly has feelings for his best-friend and fellow employees object of desire. And when his heart breaks, he shares his inner-most feelings of loneliness with the audience, allowing them to peek into his broken heart.

The inevitable happens, of course. Life eventually catches up with Alfie when he realizes that although he has captured the attention of numerous women, he has never truly captured a woman’s heart. He has made love, but has never truly loved or been loved.

Alfie, a remake of the famous 1966 British movie starring Michael Caine, captures the humor of womanizing to the extreme, a theme which is just as unlikely to go out of style than the act itself. The remake has a parade of well-known actresses who quickly walk in and out of Alfie’s life. Susan Sarandon, Marisa Tomei, Jane Krawowski and Nia Long are just a handful of Alfie’s flavors of the week.

Jude Law’s charm and pull is classic – you walk away from the movie knowing in the back of your mind that, yes, I could definitely be played by him and love every minute of it. The boyish allure. The tasseled dirty blond hair. A man who is confident enough in himself to wear a pink button-down. Who could resist?
