Salve Regina University AMA was one of thirteen collegiate chapters to be awarded a community service grant from the American Marketing Association Foundation.
The grant is in the amount $500. Eight marketing students in MGT422: Marketing Strategies during the fall 2004 semester wrote the grant seeking funds to help the Newport Community School increase community awareness.
A team of six students will be devoting time and effort towards the completion of this awareness campaign throughout the spring semester.
“The American Marketing Association Foundation is pleased to provide support to the Salve Regina University AMA Chapter for Awareness Campaign for the Newport Community.
The AMA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the AMA, is dedicated to building the marketing capacity in nonprofit organizations, fulfilling its mission to serve as a catalyst for making a difference through marketing.”
The Newport Community School (NCS) is a nonprofit after-school program offered to students who attend Thompson Middle School. The mission of NCS is “to coordinate public involvement in creating a safe, fun, and nurturing atmosphere for learning which recognizes, encourages and celebrates academic success, creativity, diversity and healthy living so that all generations can pursue their individual talents and dreams.”
The program is structured to provide academic and enrichment classes that range from educational topics to recreational activities. These classes allow students to explore different areas of interest.
Meagan Shaw, President of the SRU AMA chapter, states “I am very enthusiastic about the wonderful opportunities the Newport Community School contributes to the enrichment of these children’s’ lives. I also want to congratulate the students who worked on the AMA Foundation Collegiate Chapter Community Service Grant proposal last semester.”
