Salve Regina men’s hockey defenseman Eugene Binda will be presented the Joe Concannon award at the New England Hockey Writer’s Dinner on Wednesday, April 13. The award is given to the best American born division two or three college hockey player by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston President, Ken Eldridge.

Binda began playing hockey at age six in his home town of South Boston, MA, and began refereeing at age eleven. He attended Boston College High School and spent a year at Avon Old Farms before attending Salve Regina. An Administration of Justice major, Binda still referees and plans to continue doing so after graduation. He has loved his years of hockey here at Salve and will miss playing the game very much, he said.

“The biggest influence in my life was and still is my parents, said Binda. They drove me every day to those early morning practices and gave me every opportunity to succeed as a

hockey player. I can’t thank them enough for everything they have giving me,” he said.
