Women’s Track and Field Update:
After only one and half years at Salve as the women’s track and field coach, Coach Scott Hutchinson is already seeing improvement. The team boasts a roster of 23, up from last years team of 15. The team welcomes back returners Lisa Silveira, and Kendra Czarnecki, both of whom qualified for NCAA New England’s last year. Czarnecki also made All-New England in the long jump. Senior Christine Wenthn and junior Meaghan Kulesza lead the team as this year’s captains, as the team has been working for about six weeks. The team is preparing for the Bryant Invitational, after the RIC Invitation cancelled due to weather. Also included on the team are, juniors Stephanie Gaeta, Sandra Neubig, and sophomores Amanda Lovett, Kaitlyn Urbanetti, Deanna Robitaille, Christina Riccardi, Judy Crane, Bethel Becker, Lisa Cohen, and Margaret O’Brien. New to the team are freshman Jessica Delucia, Kacie Gallo, Kim Tose, Suzey Ronau, Kayleigh Novi, Laurette Mangan, Anissa Vieira, Kara Bowen, Emily Cedrone, and Stefanie Webster. “With some good talent back and a very good freshman class, I look for this program to progress quickly in New England,” said Hutchinson. “It should be a lot of fun and our future is very bright.” Baseball Update: After traveling to Florida the baseball team looks to improve their two and six record. The young team has only three seniors, Eric Cirella, Chris Haddad, and Jay Boss, after graduating three seniors last year. The team had little luck in Florida after suffering rain outs, and three one run losses. They were however, able to top Williams College twice, a 30 win team a year ago. “The reason we made our Florida schedule so difficult was to be able to beat all the teams in our conference and prepare for the type of teams we could see in the NCAA’s, when we win in the conference championship,” said Captain Eric Cirella. The team looks forward to be scrappy and fast this year, and will rely on good pitching and a solid defense more so than in past years said Cirella. “I’m looking forward to playing teams in our conference and hopefully hosting the CCC tournament again at Cardines this May,” said Cirella.
