Welcome to Salve Regina University. It is the time of year when we sadly replace our lazy days on the beach with time spent in the library studying. We will trade in our flip flops for Ugg Boots (which are still in style this season) and we will prepare for the upcoming academic year.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the Salve community to the Executive Board of SRU Student Government Association (SGA). President Bobby Gondola, Jr., from Needham, MA is a politics/art double major.
He would like to strengthen communication between students, faculty, staff, and administrators. He feels that SGA should serve as the collective voice of the student body and that through representation on all University committees, students will be able to fully participate in the development of our great institution.
His other activities include: President of Sigma Phi Sigma, an Art Guild, and a Committee Member of Special Olympics and the Model United Nations.
Vice President Kathleen Styger, from Willingboro, NJ, majors in CHP with an ADJ Minor. Her main goal is to create a more united student body and a better informed one. Her other campus activities include: Sigma Phi Sigma (VP), CHP Club (President), Habitat for Humanity (President), FYE Mentor, University Chorus, Resident Assistant, and Delta Epsilon Sigma.
Secretary Mary Ellen Connell, from Milton, MA, majors in nursing. For this academic year she would like to see students take on a more active role within the University. Salve is a community that is very receptive to the needs of the students and is open to change and growth.
She will feel successful within her role on the SGA E-Board, if at the end of this year students feel pride in their role within the university and utilize the tools available at Salve.
Mary Ellen’s other activities include: Campus Ministry, University Chorus, Madrigals, and Resident Assistant.
Treasurer Robert Pesapane, from East Haven, CT, majors in politics and economics. As treasurer he wants to actively allocate money for purposes that will benefit the entire campus. Robert is known to always help clubs with budget materials.
He is also the President of Model United Nations and can always be found in the community doing something patriotic.
Lastly, Public Relations Coordinator Tarra Del Chiaro (TDC), from Wallingford, CT, majors in marketing with a minor in business administration. I would like to improve relations with Salve Regina’s student body and the Newport community.
Another priority is to create a partnership with the Public Affairs department and work to inform students about important events and ideas. My other activities include: American Marketing Association (VP) and Business Manager of The Dance Company.
Student Government Association Senate Elections are Monday, September 26 in O’Hare and Miley so please vote to decide who will join the executive board and make this year at Salve productive and keep students involved.
