California Rolls. Ebi-Su. Tekka Maki. These are just a few of the sushi items becoming more and more popular in the United States. With many Americans becoming increasingly concerned with their health, sushi restaurants are booming around the country. Newport is following this trend, with a number of sushi restaurants opening in the seaside community. For the owners of these restaurants, it seems to be a very good time to be in the sushi market.
Sushi-Go! is one of Newport’s newest additions to the Asian food market. Located in the Brick Market Place, it offers people of all ages a quick and healthy alternative to dining.
After managing a restaurant in Narragansett, for years, and dabbling in making sushi along the way, owner Jefferson Dube decided to try his luck with his own restaurant. After two failed partnerships, Dube, who is self-taught as a sushi chef, managed to open Sushi-Go! as sole proprietor in May 2002.
To Dube, his restaurant is his life and his passion. “At the end of the day it’s not about making money,” he says. “It’s really about bringing new people to sushi and bringing really good sushi to people.”
