The salt and pepper shakers are married and should always stay together. Offer the bread and butter to the person on your left, and pass it to the right. Always follow the host’s lead. These are just a few of the tips taught at the 5th Annual Senior Class Etiquette Dinner.
On Tuesday October 19th, the Offices of Development and Alumni/Parent Programs hosted the instructional dinner, focusing on teaching the seniors proper etiquette for eating during a job interview. Held in Ochre Court, the event started off with cocktails in the main hall, while Lois Vaughn played the piano that set a tone of elegance. Shrimp and chicken skews were served while students, alumni, faculty and staff socialized. “The first thing I learned during the cocktail hour was to place your nametag on your right side, so that it is easier to read when shaking hands. That was a very good tip,” said Margaret O’Brien, a business administration major. After the appetizers were served, the students and their instructors were called into the main dinning room where dinner was being served. Brian Kish, director of Development and Constituency Relations, began the dinner by sharing a few words on the importance of proper attire for a job interview. Attract less attention to what you are wearing and more attention to what you have to offer the organization, Kish said. “I firmly believe that displaying appropriate etiquette, protocol, and manners can quickly advance a professional’s career,” Kish said.
