Despite the weather forecast, over 300 people participated in the 5K Newport Mansion Run in Newport, R.I., on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The event was one of many during Fall Festival weekend. The run started and ended on Webster Street next to Rodgers Recreation Center at Salve Regina University.

The 5k takes runners through historic Bellevue Avenue and the Ochre Point neighborhood with spectacular mansion and ocean-side views.

The overall winner, Matt Kerr, 32, finished the race in 15:39 minutes. For the women, Julie Spolidoro of Duxbury, Mass., set a new record for women runners. Spolidoro finished the race in 17:26 minutes and was awarded the $150 prize.
