So, you were hit by Cupid’s arrow and now you are not sure what to get your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day? Have no fear. Here are a few suggestions that you could easily do for your loved one without breaking the bank this Feb. 14, 2009.
Picnic under the stars: Ok, so it will probably be freezing this Valentine’s Day, but at least it’s a good excuse to cozy up to your loved one. Bundle up, pack some blankets and hot cocoa and head over to First Beach for a little star gazing with your other half. It won’t seem so cold with someone to keep you warm as you search for shooting stars. Write a love letter or poem: A gift that comes from the heart, and did not even cost you a dime. You’ll be able to express your true feelings in an intimate letter or poem, which will make your partner feel special. You could also paint a picture, or make a creative collage if you are not very good at expressing yourself in words. The only thing that matters is showing how much you care. Don’t worry if you think your creation is terrible because most likely your special someone will love it deeply. Cook dinner together: If dinner is too ambitious for you, try just making dessert (cupcakes are always nice). Nothing is more intimate than being together in the kitchen making a meal. You can both make separate dishes and see which one comes out better to determine who the true chef is in the relationship. Movie Date: Watch your significant other’s favorite movie together, even if you would rather gouge your eyes out. This shows that you are willing to compromise, and it also sets up a second date (“next time we can watch my favorite movie”). So, snuggle up on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn and a cozy blanket and enjoy each other’s company. You just might enjoy that chick flick or kung fu movie. Create a Mix Tape: Mix tapes always make great gifts because each song is placed on the tape with such care. Put on songs that make you think of that special someone, songs you think your special someone should be listening to and songs that are special to the both of you. Write down why each song has a significant meaning to your relationship. Cuddle up and listen to the music together. Maybe you’ll even end up dancing in the middle of your room. The main thing to remember about Valentine’s Day is to not take it too seriously. Just have fun. As long as you show how much the love of your life (or just a friend) means to you, that’s all that matters. Don’t feel crushed if your expectations of the day do not go as planned because you never know what just might happen. If you are genuine with your feelings, it will shine through and you will have one of the best Valentine’s to remember.
