A flurry of campus activities took place this past week encouraging all Salve students to participate: Club Rush, Office of International Studies Open House, Career Development Open House and “Library Scramble”, hosted by McKillop Library. The goal of “Library Scramble” was to get students more involved, familiarized and informed about the assistance our campus can offer them.

Students were invited to participate in a scavenger hunt called “Library Scramble” held throughout McKillop Library. The first 30 students to correctly complete the scavenger hunt, designed to send students exploring throughout the library, received a McKillop Library travel mug, and each student who correctly completed the scramble had the chance to win a Nook, the Wi-Fi e-reader from Barnes & Noble.

Over 200 students participated in the Library Scramble with the hopes of taking home the Nook. In the end it was Kelsey Stafstrom, a freshman, who walked away with the prize, eager to learn how this device which has access to over one million eBooks, magazines and newspapers functioned. Stafstrom was pleasantly surprised upon receiving notification of winning.”One of my close friends has a Nook and says that it’s extremely versatile and beats carrying around dozens of books at a time,” she said.

An Elementary/Special Education major, active participant in volleyball and lacrosse, as well as member of five clubs, Stafstrom hopes that having this Nook will ‘de-stress’ her life a bit. “I’ve only been here for a month and I am already feeling the stress of class, clubs and sports,” she said. “It may seem like a lot of work, but I want to make the most of my time and hate to miss out on opportunities that come my way.”

Stafstrom was impressed with the convenience of attending three open houses in one general spot on campus. She tried her hand at the “Library Scramble,” signed up for 11 study abroad trips and consulted Career Development advisors to find a work-study job on campus. “This open house provided a fun and easy way to familiarize myself with the library and what it has to offer,” Stafstrom concluded.

Residing in Miley New Residence, Stafstrom is enjoying her freshmen year and hopes that success and good luck will continue follow her throughout the rest of the school year.
