Ke$ha arrives to the 11th Annual NRJ Music Awards 2010 held at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, January 23, 2010. WSRU radio gave away free tickets to Ke$ha.

The entertainment maverick Ke$ha rose to stardom in 2009 when her debut album, “Animal”, hit charts globally, reaching No. 1. She is best heard blasting out of car windows – but perhaps you may have even met her – or several of her, for that matter, while out trick-or-treating this Sunday evening.

Needless to say, Salve Regina University’s WSRU Seahawk Radio recently hosted a Ke$ha Ticket Giveaway from Oct. 4 to 18.

“It was a collaboration of ideas from the WSRU E-board. We had known from the get go we wanted to give away something that would get people excited,” said Frank Gaspar, WSRU’s Station Manager.

Clearly, Ke$ha made the cut. One lucky winner received four tickets to see her play live on Oct. 26 in Providence, Rhode Island at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel. The winner of the giveaway ended up being Philip Tutino, a junior.

The station crew met for a week straight, planning and organizing their first big giveaway of the year. From here, the next step was promotion and lots of it: Facebook events, online web articles and the like filled computer screens around campus.

“Gaspar is a graphic design genius and he devised really crafty flyers to put up, as well,” said Jaclyn Drecier, a junior and Assistant Station Manager.

Seahawk radio members even managed a table outside Miley Cafeteria;, hyping up the event by handing out promotional bags filled with goodies such as bracelets and stickers to passing students and faculty.

“Be on the lookout,” Drecier said. WSRU fans have a lot to listen in for this academic year. “We are currently in the process of working on a ticket deal with a promoter from both Lupo’s and The Met,” said Gaspar.

However, WSRU’s crucial goal is gaining exposure and making their presence known around campus. For quite some time, WSRU Seahawk Radio has slipped under the radar, having gone unnoticed by students and faculty. Gaspar says, “One’s radio show is what you make of it. Shows that go out of their way and promote themselves bring in the big numbers.”
