The goblins were twisting, the witches were laughing and the ghosts were boogieing down. The fruit punch was flowing, the candy was being eaten and the costumes were a spectrum of color and fright at Salve Regina University’s annual fall semester Halloween Dance.

The annual CAB Halloween dance was held in Ochre Court from 9pm to 1am on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. Students were ready to dance as they lined the rocky entrance to the foreboding mansion. The music was bumping as pop tunes escalated from the stereo of WSRU radio, who DJ’d the event and accepted music requests.

Kate Simpson, a sophomore, and the director of Special Events for Salve’s Campus Activities Board was pleased with the turnout. “It’s a great opportunity to meet people that I might not have met otherwise”, Simpson said, “It is great to see that people are willing to be a part of what we plan”.

Tickets were not purchased for the event and guests were invited to the bash for free. Ochre Court was a menacing sight: with decorations lining the walls and tables as the strobe light company created a multihued display of color.

“I think it will be a great success because people seem to really love dances,” Simpson said. “In previous years it has always had high attendance.” And right she was. Simpson said the dance committee consisting of Emma Garcia Prieto, Jeanette Scinto, Kaitlin Chambers, Matthew DeMatteo and Sarah Costigan. The group worked really hard to make sure there were enough decorations, food and drinks for everyone.

Sarah Costigan, a sophomore, was surprised at the turnout of the event. “By 9:45 p.m. we had already hit our maximum capacity, which was 400, and people were waiting outside in the cold for at least an hour before they could get in,” Costigan said. “It says a lot about how much school spirit we have at Salve”.

Costigan said the dance went very smoothly and people really enjoyed the decorations and DJ. Sounds like the dance was a spooky success!
