College: New Changes, New Adventures

Young Marsh-

I am two weeks into my junior year and with my lowerclassmen years not yet too far removed to reflect upon, I am stunned by how much I have changed.  Although two years is not a long period of time, for a student in college it is enough to completely remodel your way of thinking, as well as yourself.

The full four years even more so; it is hard to relate to the person you were before.

For freshman reading this, do not despair, all of the changes are for the better.  I am finding that as I grow older, relatively, as twenty is still quite young, life only gets better.  For sophomores and above, the same is still applicable, but you have probably already started to realize this.

Even you’re best laid plans might not come to fruition, but this doesn’t have to be a bad thing.  Roll with the punches, be spontaneous.  It was spontaneity that landed me this position as opinion/editorial writer and editor for the Mosaic newspaper.  I applied on a whim last year and got the position.

And I’m excited!

So here I am, writing my first piece for publication. I will write a story for each edition throughout the year on varying topics.  One story I’m looking forward to is this year’s election.  And who knows what else will come to pass that can be featured.

But for the first publication of the year, what better way is there to start, than to examine the prospect of starting each year itself?  Fear not, for my articles will not all seem so contrived or tired, I am no Chicken Noodle Soup for the Soul or Dr. Phil.  However I do wish to be one more person who tells you to have fun and to try new things.

Take chances, explore, and don’t fret if you fall from the path you’ve constructed for yourself.  You’ll work it out. Either you’ll hop back on, or a new path with unwind at your feet.  Use
this year to make the best of things. Grow and learn, challenge yourself. Embrace the college experience.  If you go into this year with arms wide open, I guarantee it will be a fantastic year.  If at first you’re hesitant to try something new, think it over for a second.

I debated for a few days on whether or not to apply to the Mosaic , but I’m happy I did.  It was uncharacteristic of me, but good old spontaneity got the better of me, and I’m truly thankful it did.

Like I said before, I can never fully prepare myself for the upcoming school year, but I’m

eager to experience it and enjoy what it has to offer.
