Salve Regina University will be sponsoring a public blood drive on Sept. 25, 26, and 27 from 12-6 pm for the benefit of the Rhode Island Blood Center, aiming to collect at least 50 pints of blood.

The blood drive, which will be held in Ochre Court, encourages Salve Regina alumni, faculty, students, staff, and the public to donate blood, supporting Rhode Island Blood Center, the sole suppliers of blood to all Rhode Island hospitals.

“Every unit of blood donated saves three lives,” said Jacklyn Parsons, the office manager of the University Health Services.

Donors are able to sign up for an appointment online by going to the Rhode Island Blood Center’s website, www.ribc.org, and using the sponsor code 0199, or by just walking in. The process will take one hour and it is important to come well-hydrated and having eaten something, according to Jennifer Whelihan, the account manager of the Rhode Island Blood Center.

According to Whelihan, the Rhode Island Blood Center needs to collect 280 pints of blood every day.  The goals for Salve Regina have previously been met or exceeded in past blood drives.

The Rhode Island Blood Center has also been working closely with the Athletic Department at Salve Regina University to support bone marrow drives on campus.
