On Tuesday, Dec. 4, Comedian Mo Mandel performed in the Bazarsky auditorium, hosted by the Campus Activities Board.  When my roommates and I heard there was free pizza involved, we jumped at the chance to feast and have a laugh.  We made our way to O’Hare twenty minutes before the show to ensure our chance of inhaling the college kid staple food.  We arrived to an empty lobby except for the CAB students who guarded the pizza.  My roommates and I ate while pacing the floor.  Inside the auditorium, the university’s improv club performed for a large group of students.  Mandel stood in the lobby for a few minutes before entering the auditorium. At 8 P.M., the students left the auditorium to eat the pizza while my roommates and I found our seats.  Soon, everyone came back and sat among the many rows of chairs.  A good amount of people came as nearly all the seats were taken.  Mo Mandel was introduced and he began his routine.

Mo Mandel has been featured on Comedy Central and has performed in numerous comedy clubs.  Mandel is featured regularly on the popular show, Chelsea Lately.  He has also played roles in multiple television shows and movies.

In the hour that he performed, the audience continually laughed.  Mandel told jokes about love, religion, race and his childhood. He joked about splitting dinner with his girlfriend, living in L.A. and his “hippy parents”. His jokes only fell short a few times with the audience remaining unusually quiet.

At one point, some would say the highlight of the show, Mandel chose three students to come to the stage.  The first student told a joke he knew involving a doctor and his dilemma.  The second quipped with Mandel.  Surprisingly, the student held his own against the seasoned comedian.   The third student was beckoned by Mandel.  Mandel whispered in the student’s ear, to which the student’s mouth dropped open in shock.  The student then collected himself and told the anorexia joke to the audience.  They were not amused.  Mandel thanked the volunteers and gave them a copy of his CD as they returned to their seats.

Mandel continued to tell jokes until his performance ended.  The crowd enjoyed his performance and gave him a nice ovation.  Everyone then proceeded to leave the theatre and return to their homes or dorms.

Students who enjoyed Mandel’s performance, or those who wish to hear more of him can catch him on Chelsea Lately or one of the many TV shows he guest stars in.  You can follow him on twitter or view his profile at IMDB.com
