The boutique, only a few trolley stops away from Salve Regina University, is located a few doors down from the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Bellevue Avenue.
Laura Jean Denim Shop has a healthy balance of wardrobe essentials, such as cashmere cardigans and leather boots, and trendy statement pieces, like a gold and cream dress perfect for holiday occasions. Laura Flynn, the owner of the boutique, makes sure that the clothing is not only stylish, but also comfortable and functional for everyday.
Some of the brands Laura Jean Denim shop carries include established high-end labels J Brand, Adriano Goldschmied, Frye, Sanctuary, Hudson, and Velvet. The boutique stays ahead of the curve by offering up-and-coming brands like Big Star and Mink Pink. . In addition, a variety of sizes are available—the shop has women’s sizes 0-14 (or 24-33). There are always new arrivals coming in and customers are notified via Facebook and Twitter updates, as well as by email.
What sets Laura Jean Denim Shop apart from other upscale stores in downtown Newport is the West Coast-inspired clothing. “That’s where all of the fashion comes from,” says Flynn. She believes it is because the West Coast, especially California, is “more open to changes in fashion.” From there, trends make their way over to the East Coast.
Even the store’s interior is designed in Western style, with rustic hardwood floors, saloon doors and horseshoe accents on the fitting rooms, and the shelves of Frye cowboy boots on the far wall.
Another attribute that makes Laura Jean Denim Shop special are their custom alterations available for premium denim. For an additional $10, customers can have their denim professionally hemmed by an employee and sewn by a tailor within a week of their purchase.
Flynn and her associates have the ability to establish good relationships with their customers by engaging in good conversation and having fun. They are dedicated to helping customers find the perfect statement piece or offering suggestions on putting together a polished, casual look. If someone tries on a pair of corduroys, they can immediately give advice on the best way to wear it for the season.
For this winter season, Laura Jean Denim Shop carries a variety of printed pants and denim. Some pants are in a subtle brocade print or are accented with a slimming tuxedo stripe. “Leatherettes,” which are coated denim that are washable, but look like leather pants.
As for tops, there are cashmere sweaters and color-block sweaters available in versatile neutral colors.
Customers can also expect to see a wide array of knit scarves, warm weather accessories by Emu, and a good selection of cowboy boot styles by Frye.
Flynn encourages customers to make a wishlist for holiday shopping and refer their loved ones to stop by and check it out at their leisure.
