10 Things to Do on Spring Break

It’s finally Spring Break!  This semester has been filled with nothing but stress, so it is time to relax.  Hopefully you are headed to a sunny, 80 degree, Tropical Island right now, but in reality most of us are stuck in this snow.  Here are ten things to do over Spring Break instead of sitting at home twiddling your thumbs.

  1. Get back in shape- The gym can be your last priority at school.  Between essays and lab reports- who has time?  Take this week to get back in shape and work towards that flawless beach bod.
  2. Clean, clean, clean– Spring cleaning!  Do your parents a favor and clean sweep your room.  There’s no reason to have two full closets-one at school and one at home.  Take all the clothes you don’t wear anymore to your local consignment shop or Plato’s closet for some fast cash.  Otherwise, donate it!  Check www.platoscloset.com for store locations.
  3. Take a day trip– Living in the Northeast; we are blessed with easy and cheap public transportation to Boston and New York City.  So take the train or bus and head into the city for the day, you will not get bored there.
  4. Finish everything– Finish that book you started reading over Winter Break, or the scrapbook from freshmen year.  Spring Break is the perfect time to finish all these odd end projects.
  5. Visit friends not on Spring Break– Now’s the chance to visit all the friends that you say you’re going to visit, but never actually do.  Different schools have different weeks in March off, so go visit another college one weekend of break.
  6. Try out a new restaurant– New restaurants open all the time- especially in Newport.  But if you’re home, a new restaurant has probably sprouted up since the last time you were there.  Grab all your friends for a night out as food critics.
  7. Movie marathon– The classic go-to.  Have a rom-com movie marathon or a James Bond movie marathon, there are always new movies to watch.
  8. Volunteer- Instead of sitting around, go help others.  Check out www.volunteermatch.org to see what organizations in your area are looking for volunteers.
  9. St. Patrick’s Day Parade– Come back to Newport early or go to the parade in your town, but either way, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!  It’s the only day a year that it’s acceptable to wear that much green.
  10. Plan next year’s Spring Break trip– After doing all these things and still being cold and bored, plan next year’s trip to somewhere warm. It’s worth it.
