Pulitzer Prize Winner Isabel Wilkerson to Present Lecture

Mosaic is sponsoring a guest lecturer event featuring Isabel Wilkerson on Wednesday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Bazarsky Lecture Hall.  Wilkerson is the first black woman in the history of American journalism to win a Pulitzer Prize, former national correspondent and bureau chief at The New York Times, and best-selling author.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

In her book, The Warmth of Other Suns, she tells the story of the Great Migration during the 20th Century through three protagonists.  The book, inspired by her own parents’ migration, took 15 years for Wilkerson to research and write.  She interviewed over 1,200 people and gathered the voices of all types of people to tell the story correctly.

The Warmth of Other Suns received many awards and was named one of the 10 Best Books of the Year by The New York Times Book Review, one of the Five Best Books of the Year by Amazaon, and made the Best of the Year lists of reputable newspapers around the nation.  The book made news again when President Obama chose The Warmth of Other Suns for summer reading on Martha’s Vineyard in 2011.

“We’re extremely excited for Isabel Wilkerson’s lecture. She is so influential in the field and we look forward to welcoming her to the Salve community and hearing what she has to say, ” says Brittany Lauro, co-editor of Mosaic.  This is Wilkerson’s first visit to Salve Regina University.

Mosaic is looking forward to this event and hopes to see you all there.  RSVP to the Facebook event!
