It’s the first day of October and the morning air is brisk as you head out the door. Clutching your pumpkin spice latte, your new fall boots carry you past the row of trees changing color. It’s the season of over-sized sweaters, tweed peacoats and sturdy riding boots. Your style goal is to look fabulous and feel comfortable. It’s autumn.
THE AUTUMN JACKET
There’s no wardrobe staple quite like it. In the cold weather, your style is defined by this piece. A peacoat in the fall is as classic as a black dress on a Saturday night. Don’t be afraid of statement twists on common patterns to make the peacoat your own. A bold houndstooth with a pop of color on the trim is a great way to spice up your style. Sport the menswear look with tweed and some smart elbow patches. Keep the fit a little over-sized , in order to wear a big sweater underneath!–Lauren Kane
THE COMFIE SWEATER
You can never go wrong with a cute sweater. They’re comfy, they’re cozy, and one of the best ways to keep warm this fall while still staying on trend. Grab a classic beige cable knit or go bold with a color blocked sweater. Offset the bulkiness of an over-sized sweater with a pair of skinny jeans and sleek boots and you’ll be ready to take on the season.–Jordan Szwed
LEATHER BOOTS
Sandal season is over, but Ugg season has not quite begun. You’re torn between comfort and style, as your brisk walk to school takes you down some bumpy uneven roads. A light and airy pair of leather boots it is! Keeping your feet warm and toasty, just like your mom’s hugs during a winter storm would. But you know that boots are a popular fad, and you like to stand out, adding your own unique flare. Adding a pair of knee high socks and a skirt with your boots will do the trick! It’s cute and classy, while making a statement that won’t be ignored this fall.–Ciara Speller
BLACK AND WHITE
Black and white is no longer boring. It has emerged for fall; whether worn for day time or night black and white has always been a classic staple in everyone’s closet, appropriate for the office as well as Friday night drinks with friends. This fall, black and white is taking different forms in tops, dresses and pants. Weather you pair them as solids or a fun pattern, it will go with anything. Add some colorful accessories to pull the look together and add definition.—Hannah Bishop
THE BARBOUR JACKET
A quintessential item in any New Englander’s closet, the Barbour jacket stamps Ivy League across your forehead as you walk around town. Not just any Barbour will do though. This fall it’s all about quilt. A classic, preppy design, the quilted jacket will give you the sophisticated look you need as you do your best shopping or traveling this fall. Casual enough for Central Park yet mature enough for the races; we think these jackets look best with the sleeves cuffed and your collar high to reveal the signature Barbour pattern on the inside. Remember no one likes a girl with their nose in the air so leave it to your collar instead.—Albert Vuoso
