Letters From The Editors

By Tara Stanzione & Kristin Wilinkiewicz | Co-Editor-In-Chiefs

kristin11The Mosaic Student Newspaper has been an incredibly meaningful part of my experience at Salve Regina University and I feel blessed to have been able to take part in so much of the organization’s growth over the past few years. As a co-editor-in-chief of Mosaic I have learned more than I ever thought I could – like the importance of working as a team, how to plan speaker events, and how to best cover unbiased controversial stories.

This year in itself Mosaic has brought in MSNBC reporter Irin Carmon to speak on the importance of equality, added an advice column to our newspaper, covered a number of more controversial topics, and traveled to a College Media Association conference to learn more about the best way to report important student issues.

I am honored to have been able to take part in these additions and experiences, and am excited for Mosaic’s future with student submitted open letters voicing individual student opinions, which have been submitted more frequently this past year. I am confident that next year’s editors will continue the organization’s growth and I urge Salve students to continue to write open letters on what they believe is important, talk to writers about what they want covered, and lastly, to join the Mosaic staff if they want to write about something they feel passionate about – whatever that may be.

Lastly, I would like to thank the readers of Mosaic, the amazing newspaper staff for all of their hard work, Dr. Ramsey for accompanying the Mosaic team on the CMA conference, our advisor Dr. Harrington-Lueker for everything she does, and all of the members of the Salve Regina University’s community for their continuous support. Thank you all for everything.

Most sincerely,

Tara Stanzione

When I started at Mosaic in the Spring semester of my Freshman year, I never expected to be a part of something that would teach me so much. We were a staff of seven at best, struggling to get more than four people to a meeting. When I look back at that, it genuinely encouraged me when I saw almost every seat of McKillop 005 filled during my last meeting of the year. This group of writers and editors have been so completely dedicated and are unimaginably invaluable. I have no doubt in my mind that they will continue to push for this newspaper’s growth with the next upcoming academic year.

As a senior, and an exiting Editor-in-Chief, I have seen this newspaper grow into a much more important, serious and exciting organization to be a part of. I believe that our staff’s willingness to tackle important and difficult subjects has helped me understand the Salve community better, and has made the university more interconnected and informed.

With Tara and me graduating, the responsibility of Mosaic Student Newspaper will be passed onto the future Co-Editors-in-Chief, Marrissa Ballard and Lily Jones, as well as the rest of next year’s editors and writers. I can, with no exception, say that this year’s staff has molded me into the person I am today. When I leave, I know that they will continue to improve the newspaper I have cared so much about for four years.

I leave Mosaic in their capable hands.

Thank you so much for a great year, and get HYPED about next year’s improvements!

Best,

Kristin Wilinkiewicz
