Ask Alex

Dear Alex,
I’m a freshman and I want to study abroad. Where do I start?
— Wanting to Travel
Dear Wanting to Travel,
Salve has a rich and vibrant study abroad program with a wide variety of options including many durations and destinations. I encourage you to check out the website for the International Studies program for more details. Also, be sure to stop into the Gate House (by McAuley) to schedule an appointment with a study abroad adviser.
During that meet your adviser will give you a greater idea of the study abroad process. This includes making a four-year plan which will lay out every class you need to take in order to ensure you will be able to study abroad and graduate on time, pick a destination, discuss applications, deadlines, when to study and what courses to take.
It’s an easy process, but it takes time, so the sooner you go to the Gate House, the better! Also, be sure to ask about the variety of month-long
summer trips that Salve has to offer if you find that studying for a whole semester is not for you.
Hope to receive a postcard from you soon!
Alex
________
Dear Alex,
I’m curious about how I can become involved in Student Government. I overheard some of the things happening today in Miley about dining services, and I would be very interested in helping out. I’m a Freshman and have lots of ideas about how Salve can be better.
I want to bring these ideas to the Student Government and get more involved in making Salve a better place! Where do I start and how do I do this?
— Fresh Ideas
Dear Fresh Ideas,
Glad to hear you want to get involved! The Student Government Association (SGA) relies on motivated students like you to bring forth a new  perspective—particularly in the area  of dining services. All SGA meetings are open to the entire University community. I encourage you to sit in on these meetings; they take place Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. in Rodgers 205.
As for the “Dining with Dining Services” program, it meets every Thursday at 12 p.m. in the front of Miley Cafeteria. Dining with Dining Services gives students an opportunity to meet with SGA and Sodexho simultaneously, and is open to the student body via reservation to Sam.Watson@Salve.edu. Finally, you have the opportunity to run for the Senate of the coming academic year when nomination packets come out next week. I strongly encourage you to grab a packet from the SGA office in Wakehurst room 200 if you are interested in the possibility of running for a position.
Good for you, and I hope to see you campaigning soon,
Alex
