Salve’s Power-Players: The Unique Voice of Priscilla Gaspard

This piece is part of a series of profiles highlighting women power-players on Salve’s campus. These are made in collaboration with the Female Empowerment Organization for the upcoming Women’s Empowerment March taking place on Saturday, April 6 at Wakehurst Lawn.

Any given day, one may see junior Priscilla Gaspard leading a Philosophy Club meeting, making decisions as an SGA senator, or tearing it up with Salve’s tennis team. An ever-present source of enthusiasm and individuality of campus, Priscilla Gaspard embodies what it means to be a Salve power-player.

Since her Freshman year, Priscilla has participated in the Navigator Leadership Program, Nuala Pell Leadership Fellowship, and studied abroad in France. On top of that, she is a double major in business administration and philosophy; there really is no limit to her can-do attitude:

“I feel like I should take part in creating opportunities at Salve… My extroverted personality would be a waste if I didn’t participate in creating change.”

Gaspard is using her extroverted personality to found two new clubs for the 2019/20 academic year: International Students Club and an Alumni Student Association. Having lived in Haiti and France, Priscilla feels her diverse background gives her a unique perspective, and she wants to create a place at Salve for students like herself.

“When I came back from study abroad, my mind was opened, and I saw things were missing on campus. It’s not that I want to leave a legacy at Salve, I just feel like there is so much that can be done for this campus, and I don’t want to leave before I can make it happen.”

International Students Club will focus on aiding International students with having a comfortable transition into Salve’s culture while the Alumni Student Association will connect Salve students and alumni across generations to network and communicate.

Priscilla Gaspard is a Salve power-player because she is bright, bold, and ambitious. Having unique backgrounds makes some students shy, whereas Priscilla is emboldened by her perspective and uses it to create positive change on campus. The upcoming Women’s Empowerment March will celebrate women like Priscilla Gaspard, who continues to motivate and impress the Salve community everyday.

“We need to encourage people- men and women, anyone- to just be themselves and be okay with their opinions, actions, and intentions. If we do that, we’ll have a better society in the end. People being honest with themselves makes for a more honest future.”
