What do you get when you take a residence hall full of hungry people, lots of turkey and a couple of RAs with a fun idea? A Thanksgiving Dinner at Seaview!
This past Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. about 40 people, including both old and new residents and guests attended this well laden gathering. Having received personal invitations the week before, the residents and other visitors walked into the main entrance and were met with the heavy aroma of cinnamon (from the potpourri set throughout the room) and tables heaped with Thanksgiving decorations, such as turkey placemats, fall colored leaves and figurines of pilgrims.
The meal, catered by Sodexho, treated the dinner guests to a buffet of turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, and a variety of pies including apple, pumpkin and chocolate cream prepared by several of the female residents of the building.
When asked what lead the Seaview RAs to throw such an elaborate dinner, Matt Kelly answered “I know that in a place like Seaview, it is difficult to cater to everyone’s tastes, so I thought that in the light of Thanksgiving (and the fact that everyone loves food) I would have a huge dinner as a program. Despite the RA auto-response, I think that a meal is one of the best ways to bring everyone together, and it definitely worked. We had 12 more people than who live in Seaview attend.” Area Coordinator Van Pham agreed with Kelly, “It was a lot of fun, very festive, and there was a lot of food. The RAs did a great job!”
The evening went off without a hitch and was a success for those involved. The RAs and their guests had a wonderful time and this is a program that, like the pilgrims, just might go down in Thanksgiving history.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Mosaic Staff!
