On Friday September 16th, Restcom Elwood Peabody Jr. passed away at the age of 91. Peabody and his family had owned the “Peabody’s Beach,” the private end of third beach from 1905-2015, until the beach came under new ownership. Peabody’s Beach is a quaint and family centered beach equipped with a concession stand and bathhouses, and beach service. Peabody’s has been a summertime staple for many local and vacationing Aquidneck Island families for generations, as you can often hear a current member speak of the time they spent at the beach with their family, growing up.

Peabody leaves his children, Merah Bousquet and her husband Roger of Vista, CA, Kristin Saghain of Tennessee, and R. Gregory Peabody of Middletown. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and two nieces.

Calling hours will be held this Saturday morning, September 24, 2022, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 pm in Middletown Cemetery.
