Despite the rain and gloomy weather, students who were offered admission to Salve Regina University’s Class of 2008 and their families flocked to campus on Saturday, April 3 for the 10th anniversary of the Admissions’ Office “Connections” Day.

Students and their families participated in a rotating schedule from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., attending four sessions consisting of academic presentations, a discussion with a current Salve student panel, a liberal arts experience presentation and brunch in the Miley Hall cafeteria.

They also had the opportunity to visit the Wakehurst Student Center, take tours of the dorms or just to explore anywhere on the campus from 2 to 4 p.m.

According to Sarah Kelly of the Admissions Office, 459 prospective students attended on Saturday. “There were 100 more students who attended than last year,” Kelly said.

Kelly also said that 65 to 70 percent of prospective students who come to Salve for Connections haven’t decided what school to attend, and this day makes a great impression on them.

Kelly was also pleased with the turnout from faculty, staff and students and their presentations for the prospective students. She also said that many prospective students will often go back to their high schools and talk about what a wonderful school Salve is, which also helps with recruitment.

Many of Salve’s clubs and organizations were present throughout the day to greet the prospective students and their families and answer any of their questions, including Sigma Phi Sigma, the Student Government Association and Student Ambassadors. There were also tables set up in the Wakehurst Student Center for many of the clubs and organizations, to answer any questions for those prospective students interested in getting involved with campus life.

The Admissions Office was pleased with the day over all, and felt that it was a huge success, Kelly said. They hope that many prospective students will choose to become part of the Class of 2008 next fall.
