Rock the Vote with Free Cone Day

As college students, we may not be interested in politics or voting, yet for many of us, ice cream is one of our favorite treats. On April 27, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop will be giving out free ice cream cones from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. However, there’s a twist: Rock the Vote will be holding a one-day voter registration drive to coincide with the free ice cream.

Rock the Vote is looking for 2,000 volunteers to span out at the Ben and Jerry’s shops across the country to help with the voter registration. Rock the Vote’s goal is to register 20,000 new voters in an eight-hour period.

Ben and Jerry’s annual “thank-you” tradition began in 1978 at the original store in Burlington, Vermont, and each year it continually grows bigger and bigger. According to Rock the Vote’s web site, over a million “thank you’s” were scooped last year.

The Ben and Jerry’s in Newport is located at 33 Bannister’s Wharf, so please come out, have a free ice cream cone and register to vote all in one day.

For more information, contact Ben and Jerry’s at 841-0777 or visit Rock the Vote’s web site at www.rockthevote.org.
