An End-of-Year Tribute Playlist for Seniors

By: Eilis O’Neil | Social Media Manager

As we come back from spring break and hurtle toward finals, I cannot believe it is time to start wrapping my head around the idea of graduation and dare I say it: the real world. Graduation marks an end to a chapter of our lives. As sad and overwhelming as it may be, embracing it can only help us succeed in the end. Everything we have worked toward has led up to this exact moment.

Here’s to a new journey. We all have worked endlessly and now we get to celebrate. Whether you need a good cry or a nostalgic ride on Ocean Drive, this playlist is for you to enjoy as you begin to wrap up your college experience. Class of 2022, we are almost there!

8TEEN by Khalid

18: the age that we started our journeys at Salve. We all came in with high expectations as we started our college experience. New challenges, people, adventures, and academics are a few of the things we faced on move-in day. This song captures the essence of this sneak peek into adult life.

“So let’s do all the stupid s*** that young kids do”

GROWING UP IS _____ by Ruel

Somewhat new and upcoming into the music industry, Ruel perfectly explains what we are all feeling about growing up. This song welcomes an open-ended interpretation of lyrics, which is perfect for everyone’s unique experience around this age.

“Growin’ up is strange, get too close, push away”

Good Old Days (feat. Kesha) by Macklemore

If you have not heard a plethora of people say, “college was the best time of my life” and constantly reminisce on the good old days, make the most out of your last months in Newport and live life to the fullest. It is all about living in the moment.

“All the love you won’t forget, and all these reckless nights you won’t regret. Someday

soon, your whole life’s gonna change, you’ll miss the magic of these good old days

Look How Far We’ve Come by Quinn XCII

Newport icon and upcoming spring concert headliner, Quinn XCII reminisces on the good times and takes a step back when he realizes how far he has come in life. It is important to embrace all the changes we went through and what we will face when we enter the real world.

“Look how far we’ve come, when you and I were young, this is all we ever wanted, look how far we’ve come”

This Bar by Morgan Wallen

Everyone has their favorite bar or restaurant in town, whether that is The IA, Diegos, Smugglers, Red Parrot, Pelham, or Blues Cafe, there is one spot that embodies what you consider to be the Newport experience.

“I found myself in this bar, making mistakes and making new friends. I was growing up and nothing made sense”

Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen

This simply-put song summarizes the thrill we will soon get as graduation approaches where we become unstoppable. No one can stop us and the world becomes ours. The energy will be through the roof and there is no better song, in my opinion, that speaks to this message.

“And the world, I’ll turn it inside out, yeah. I’m floating around in ecstasy. So (Don’t

stop me now) Don’t stop me, ‘cause I’m having a good time, having a good time”

Dancing Queen by ABBA

There is something about this song that just screams nostalgia along with having the time of your life. It is about an end, but embracing what is about to come.

“You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life”

I Lived by OneRepublic

Reflecting back on my time at Salve, I realized how many times I stepped out of my comfort zone and how much I learned in such a short timeframe. I wish and hope happiness upon everyone. Carpe diem, Seahawks!

“I owned every second that this world could give. I saw so many places, the things that I did. With every broken bone, I swear I lived”

Time of Our Lives by Pitbull and Ne-Yo

You can never go wrong with Pitbull, and with this song, Ne-Yo just adds to the heat. As our time is coming to an end and the stereotypical “broke college student” may ring true to a few, this song just tells us to enjoy our time.

“Have me a good time, before my time is up. Hey, let’s get it now. Oooh! I want the

time of my life”

Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey

The title of the song says it all. Through all the ups and downs in college, we kept pushing through and never stopped believing. This song is a gentle reminder once we flip to our new chapter to keep our heads high and never give up no matter how fast life may seem.

“Oh, the movie never ends. It goes on and on, and on, and on”

22 (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift

Starting off the playlist with the age of 18, I am closing off this playlist as we close our college career at the age of 22. Taylor Swift captures how we are all feeling as we are making the final stretch of our marathon towards graduation. It is all about having fun and embracing what we don’t know.

“Yeah, we’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time. It’s miserable and magical, oh yeah. Tonight’s the night when we forget about the deadlines. It’s time, oh-oh”

Thank you Salve for all the memories, it is crazy our time is coming to end in just about two months. From freshman move-in to graduation, it has been a wild adventure. This is only the beginning, let’s make our mark in the world!
