NEWPORT-Madge Thombs is a Catholic here in the Newport community and can remember when Pope John Paul II was elected pope and how it was a very exciting time for the Catholic Church. “He was very different compared to previous popes. He

skied down mountains, spoke many languages fluently, and flew around the

world to meet his flock,” says Thombs.

When Mary Connolly was just a little girl, she told her mother that she

wanted to be a police woman, a teacher, part of the church, a politician, and this,

that and the other thing. Now at 62 years old, her only regret is that her

mother isn’t around to see all that she’s accomplished.

Hannah: That you meet all kinds of people in college and during my time at Salve I

have met my closest friends.

It’s been a little over a week since Well Fest began at Salve Regina University and Theresa Brown, associate director of Residential Life is quite excited at the response. “It’s just a fun way to educate,” says Brown, who lists upcoming events such as the Can I Kiss You Now and Fatal Vision programs as the top two events of this year’s Well Fest.
