International Tennis Hall of Fame Breaking More than Records

In honor of Black History Month, the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. is displaying an exhibit called “Breaking the Barriers.” The exhibit will honor the history of African Americans in tennis including Hall of Famers like Arthur Ashe, Althea Gibson and even touches upon influential African Americans playing the game today like Venus and Serena Williams and James Blake.

NEWPORT, R.I. – On Thursday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. Salve Regina’s men’s basketball team played for more than packed stands, they played for the COX Sports Television audience. The game versus Seahawk rival Roger Williams University, which was taped and then aired the following night on CST, is the first time that an athletic event in Salve’s Rodgers Recreation Center has been broadcast on television.

Although Katherine B. Ritchie doesn’t know how to ice skate, she could easily learn in her own backyard. Ritchie has been involved with the Newport Yachting Center for many years and is very familiar with her surroundings since she has worked there since she was in high school.
