About 70 current sophomores and juniors at Salve Regina University piled into the O’Hare lecture room 260 on Oct. 30, to learn about the upcoming room draw.

For many students at Salve, the room draw can be more stressful than final exams. It can be especially stressful for sophomores who live in Hunt Hall, a freshman dorm this year because they received a bad room draw time.

Winter isn’t too far away, and it’s the peak season for developing a sore throat.

Viruses associated with colds and influenza cause most sore throats. Unfortunately, we can come into contact with these viruses many different ways, including when someone coughs or sneezes, hand-to-hand contact with an infected person or sharing objects, such as utensils, towels or a telephone.

No Friday Classes, Please!

Is it wrong to say Friday classes are a bad idea? I didn’t think so. Think about it. Friday is only a mere few hours from the bar-hopping, house-partying Thursday nights.

Classes would obviously intervene in this equation. So why is Salve proposing to have Friday classes every week beginning with the 2007-2008 school year?

From hearing of this change through the “grapevine,” as the saying goes, I’ve come to the conclusion that this change is occurring for more than one reason – with a strong hope that the new policy will force students of the university to “stick around.
