Last year Salve Regina University’s French Film Festival attracted over 2,000 spectators from the university and the area community. After five successful years, the festival has evolved to become a cultural highlight of Newport’s spring season. This year, the festival will again bring six innovative films to the area.

Sociology and Anthropology departments proposed a new major to Dr. Laura O’Toole, dean of arts and sciences, as well as the Academic Council at Salve and the Faculty Assembly at Salve. The proposal was accepted, and now the two departments are pleased to announce that a Sociology/Anthropology major will be offered in the 2011 fall semester.

Late at night on March 5, the ballroom of Ochre Court was filled to the brim with exuberant Salve students. The occasion: the Mardi Gras Dance, an event hosted by the Campus Activities Board as part of the Friday Night Live series. Many of the students’ outfits matched the night’s festive theme.
