Late at night on March 5, the ballroom of Ochre Court was filled to the brim with exuberant Salve students. The occasion: the Mardi Gras Dance, an event hosted by the Campus Activities Board as part of the Friday Night Live series. Many of the students’ outfits matched the night’s festive theme.

The fall fashion forecast for 2011 finally hit catwalks at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City this past month. Designer collections from around the world are flaunting long, sinewy silhouettes adorned from hat to shoe in crimson glory, sumptuous cropped furs, grainy knits and velvet accents.

Cell phones are seen as essential to the life of many individuals, but I challenged this notion in month of February. As experiment for class, I detached myself from my most precious possession at the time: my cell phone. At the beginning of the experiment I was sad, frustrated and antsy because I was too attached to this piece of metal.

STAND is Salve Regina University’s Student Anti-Genocide Coalition and is in association with the national organization. According to the organization’s website, standnow.org, the meaning of STAND was “Students Taking Action Now: Darfur,” but the meaning has dissappeared as the organization goes beyond just Darfur.

Environmental Club Plans Campus Events to Conserve Energy and Reduce Waste

Last year the Environmental Club brought recycling bins to campus. This year they are focusing on getting wasteful plastic bottles off campus. These dedicated students trek to local beaches to clean up garbage, turn off lights in campus buildings and raise money for local causes.
