Christmas Season Has Arrived

By Ciara Speller –

As the old adage goes, ‘tis the season to be jolly, and that is just what Salve students intend to be. Some of us are jolly because we can finally pull out our favorite scented Yankee candles now that they are finally back in season, such as Christmas Cookie or Sparkling Cinnamon. Even if that does not make your nose happy, then others can be jolly because winter is here, and that typically means snow. Perhaps the smell of the first snow fall will incite joy into students’ hearts, because it means winter activities are back. This means enjoying your favorite holiday past time, be it skiing or building a snowman.

Christmas time is one of the happiest times of the year. Some would even call it the most wonderful. It is a time where everyone has something to

look forward to, no matter what it is. I look forward to Christmas because I love to give to others. Christmas is a time of giving. No matter how small or how big, sharing my time with the needy is one of my favorite things to do around Christmas.

I also look forward to spending time with my family around the Christmas tree and reminiscing on old times that we have enjoyed together during this season. It is also always great fun decorating our tree and house together, as well as baking and smelling that wonderful aroma of gingerbread cookies in the air. This is a special tradition in my house, and I cannot wait for more memories to come.

Everyone’s experiences with Christmas differ, but they’re all important. Traditions are plentiful, and exciting to share. Here are just a few traditions which your classmates expect to enjoy over their winter break.

Albert Vuoso- “I am most excited for a month off from school this year, which will be filled with shenanigans with my friends back in Connecticut. I am also looking forward to the presents!”

Megan Silva- “This Christmas, I can’t wait to spend time with family and friends and away from school work. Every year, my extended family from Texas comes up to Rhode Island and everyone spends the day at my house Christmas Day. We all go to the town lighting in Bristol and share stories from the times we have been away from each other. Also, I can’t wait to spend Christmas Eve with my little cousins, age 5-8, as they await Santa. Christmas is my favorite time of year!”

Brianna Del Valle- “The tradition I look forward to the most is decorating the tree with my family. It’s always fun to see all the ornaments my siblings and I made growing up that my parents have kept, and all the ornaments we have gotten from the places we’ve traveled. It’s also nice to have the whole family together and listening to Christmas music while we do it. It really gets me into the holiday spirit!”
