Disco is back and better than ever! Kylie Minogue, the Grammy Award winning Australian singer, has returned with her 15th studio album entitled DISCO. As if the name was not self-explanatory already, the album is completely in the style of disco, but with a modern twist. Think of artists like Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, Bruno Mars, and even The Weeknd who are doing the same.
Each song on the album has a unique inspiration, whether it was Minogue’s musical taste, childhood, or even certain artists that were extremely influential to her.
One song on the album, entitled Last Chance, was heavily influenced by The Bee Gees as well as ABBA (the famed songwriters/band whose music is the basis for the Mamma Mia franchise). Also, the song I Love It is heavily inspired by Lionel Richie.
By no means does this album feel dated or even already done; this is fresh, new music for our generation. It is upbeat dance music that you can play in the car or even in a club. Perfect for listening to on the way home from school this semester!
Debuting at number two on The Billboard Top Albums Sales Chart in the U.S, this is Minogue third-highest charting album in the country.
Personally, I loved this album. It had a great vibe to it. Not one song on the record felt forced or out of place, it all was consistently smooth and rhythmic. It is no wonder that her popularity is rising in the United States.
I have to admit that my favorite songs on the album are Miss a Thing, I Love It, and her album’s first single Magic. With a great band and orchestra in the background carrying the melodic beat of her vocal range, it was absolutely amazing!
In 2020, many artists have put out songs with a “retro” sound and feel to them, and Kylie Minogue is clearly joining that bandwagon!
DISCO gets a perfect score in my opinion, so go and listen to it for yourself! It is available now for streaming everywhere or for purchase on iTunes, Apple Music, etc. Trust me when I say that you will not regret it!
