In the way of entertainment, Harry Potter is not the only great international work of art to come to us over in America.
Over the years, music has been finding its way over the Atlantic and onto our iPods. Ed Sheeran is an artist who deserves some attention here in the states.
This 20-year-old English born singer/songwriter has a smooth voice and is a master with lyrics. Most of his career up until Summer 2011 has been an under-the-radar one, but with the release of his UK top selling single, “The A Team,” his songs and albums have been regularly at the top of the charts in the UK. His success is growing outside of the UK as well, as he is at the top of the charts in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.
His debut album, ‘+’ reached number three in the UK charts since its release in September. With “The A Team” as the first track on the album, it is off to a good start, and the remainder of the album does not disappoint. ‘+’ features a variety of different songs from the great beat and fast pace of “The City” to the moving lyrics of “Small Bump”.
The album even features a bonus track, one that should not be missed. Titled “The Parting Glass,” this quiet and beautiful song begins about 20 seconds after the preceding song, “Give Me Love,” ends.
Sheeran is an up-and-coming artist abroad, even catching the attention of stars such as Rupert Grint. Grint is featured as a crazed fan in the music video of “Lego House,” also on ‘+’.
Though his music is not available for purchase in the US, it can easily be enjoyed on YouTube. Keep an eye out for his music on iTunes. It is bound to make an impression here in the near future.
