Salve students and visiting families enjoyed a weekend full of festivities and fun on October 2nd to the 4th. Among the events offered was a festive collection of foods and activities on Friday night, a 5k run, a successful football game Saturday morning, and plenty of happy reunions!
The smell of warm dough and sugar filled the air of the Miley Starbucks Lounge Friday night at 8 o’clock. There was a caramel apple station, fried dough, cotton candy, apple cider, caricature artists and a photo booth. The lines were forming a half an hour before the event started, and excited voices were buzzing. Younger siblings were running around the tables, and parents were smiling, happy to see their children for a few days. Even those students who didn’t have families present enjoyed the festivities. Hannah Herter, a freshman here at Salve, commented on how much she enjoyed the festivities, “My family wasn’t able to make it this weekend, but I’m still having fun. My favorite thing here is the fried dough!” Families and students stayed at the event until it ended at eleven p.m.
The Salve Regina football team was matched against Curry College on Saturday afternoon at one p.m. The Seahawks pulled ahead of Curry and won the game with a final score of 31-13. Rachel Paxton, a freshman attending the game with her family said, “The crowd was cheering the whole time and there were a lot of families in the stands.” The additional bodies may have impacted the mood of the crowd, and the mood on the field. The remainder of the day saw families sprinkled around campus, taking a stroll on the Cliff Walk, exploring downtown, or touring the various buildings on campus. It’s safe to say this Festival Weekend was a success for students and families alike.
