Restaurant vendors will supply you with specialty appetizers, entrees and even deserts. Enjoy seafood classics such as lobster, scallops, clams and much more with your friends. - Eat locally, by going to Sweet Berry Farm’s orchid. Once in the orchid immerse yourself in the many fields of apples and pumpkins. Sweet Berry is unique in its size and variety of apples. Over 10 types of apples are ripe enough to pick today. Expand your taste buds by trying a new activity at a very reasonable price that won’t take up your whole day. I went in mid-September and was most surprised by how easy and quick apple picking at Sweet Berry is. This fall experience this entire island has to offer.
3. Celebrate Oktoberfest with ale and sausages
- Columbus Day Weekend: October 12&13
- Hours: 12pm-8pm [both days]
- An event unlike any other, the Newport waterfront, Oktoberfest, is Newport’s farewell event to summer. Say goodbye to summer’s flowers and say hello to fall’s auburn trees. The new season means new beer brews and the traditional German cuisine to try. The Newport Waterfront Events informs, “This year, there will be two Biergartens and expanded outdoor courtyard space for endless amounts of festivities.” Welcome the fall season with your friends at this year’s Oktoberfest!
4. Go hike when no ones looking!
- The leaves are morphing into bright reds, oranges and golden yellows. Take advantage of that this fall by taking a long walk on the cliff walk. Many of the summer tourists have left Newport’s shores and it’s finally Salve’s turn to absorb the bliss of the ocean side air. Throw on your coziest sweater and most comfy boots and hit the trails. Take photos of what you see and where you are. Take in some fresh air before the bite of winter comes to us.
