Any time I visit a new city, the first thing I do is go to Google and search for nearby art museums. As a fan of art, I find it imperative to explore the best art that city has to offer. While art museums are always a great way to get acquainted with a city, sometimes it can leave you wanting more. Through my travels in Berlin, I have found a few cool places for art lovers that are anything but ordinary!
- The East Side Gallery
While it is a popular tourist destination, the East Side Gallery is incredibly important, historically and artistically. This nearly 1-mile-long section of the Berlin Wall has been transformed by a number of artists to express feelings hope and unity for the future. With uplifting themes and beautiful imagery, the East Side Gallery is an absolute must-see in Berlin.
- Rosenthaler Straße Alley

For those who love graffiti, this stop will be right up your alley (pun intended). Located directly next to Café Cinema on Rosenthaler Straße, every inch of this alley is decorated in elaborately stunning, kitschy, and hilarious art. From trippy creatures to abstract paintings of The Godfather, this impressive alley is an art lover’s dream. The alley leads to a number of attractions as well, including a movie themed café and a permanent exhibition dedicated to Anne Frank.
- Berlin Cathedral/Berliner Dom
Although the Berlin Cathedral, also distinguished as the Berliner Dom, does not explicitly deal with art, it should definitely count as a work of art in itself. A ticket to this breathtaking Neo-Renaissance cathedral allows you to not only to experience the ethereal atmosphere of the church, but also to visit the museum on upper floors, which showcase the cathedral’s history and the crypt below. If you are really feeling adventurous, climb to the top of the cathedral and get a 180-degree view of Berlin.
- Sammlung Boros
One of the neatest art galleries to experience in Berlin, and one of my absolute favorites, is the Sammlung Boros Bunker Collection. This art gallery, housed in a former World War II bunker, holds a vast collection of contemporary art. Without giving too much away, this gallery is filled the with most abstract, striking, and discussion inducing art, including a room that consists of nothing but a popcorn machine that has been steadily popping popcorn for years. If you’re ever in Berlin, definitely check out The Boros Bunker.
