For those who have an interest in catchy, unique music, they may have come across songs such as “Cupid’s Chokehold”, “Cookie Jar”, or “Life Goes On”. These are the songs of none other than the Gym Class Heroes, who will be performing at our spring concert this year.
Many of those reading this article are probably familiar with the music style of Travie McCoy and his band. With their catchy lyrics and upbeat tones, they are bound to put on a great show.
At 8 a.m. On Tuesday, March 27 tickets went on sale in the lobby of Wakehurst. The cost per ticket for undergraduate students was $15 and $25 for guests. On the first day, 200 tickets were sold, which truly shows the amount of hype and excitement that the band brought upon the community.
When students purchased their tickets, they were asked to put their names and T-shirt sizes in a raffle ticket for a drawing. Two lucky people won T-shirts, another two students won posters, and finally two other received refunds on their tickets. Also, an Open Mic hosted the night prior to the ticket sales gave away two free tickets to the show to two lucky Salve students.
Do not fret if you were not lucky enough to win any of these prizes, as there will be plenty of Gym Class Heroes items for sale at the upcoming concert.
The venue where the concert will be held (Rodgers Recreation Center) can accommodate as many as 900 people. Matthew Martin, Assistant Director of Student Activities, mentioned that ticket sales for this year’s spring concert are much higher than past years, which is very exciting news.
For those who are wondering how Salve was able to get such a widely recognized band to play at the spring concert, it was quite the process. According to Martin, research first needed to be conducted to see which performers would be in the area around the concert date. Then, they also needed to make sure that our facility could accommodate the performer’s requirements; the smaller the facility, the more difficult it is to get performers to commit to putting on a show.
Budget is also a big factor, as many of performers today expect to get paid the big bucks. Next, Salve had to submit a bid to the performer and await their decision. Luckily, the Gym Class Heroes accepted, and we are now looking forward to a fabulous show. The Oxymorons, who are usually the opening act for the Heroes, will be doing the opening honors.
Freshman Nicole McDermott, who will be attending the Spring Concert with her two friends, Jenna Aldieri and Devan Campopiano, just can’t wait for concert day. “I am truly excited about this event,” McDermott said.
Many who will be attending this event share Nicole’s sentiments and fully expect to have a great time.
