Halloween ‘Hor’ror

Upon a recent visit to a Halloween store, I stumbled upon something entirely sickening and horrendous-distastefully incomplete costumes targeted at young teenage girls. As many of these costumes are dresses, they tend to lack length and material specific to the chest area. These outfits are mirror images of those released by brands such as Playboy and Leg Avenue, which are infamous for promiscuously-themed Halloween attire for women.

Costumes presumed to be distasteful are not new to the holiday of horrors. For years young women have dressed this way, perhaps as an excuse to catch the attention of the opposite gender. The key to this notion is that the costume-wearer is an adult, at least 18 years of age. By this age, most females are accustomed to the consequences of dressing in such a manner.

Most shocking of all is that many costumes are intended to fit females who weigh 85-100 lbs. Many girls who are within this weight range can be considered “tweens.” These girls would be either in the lower range of teen years (13 or 14) or, perhaps, they are tremendously tiny.

People may think that allowing young girls to don these costumes only on the rare occasion of Halloween is acceptable. After all, they wouldn’t dress that way most of the time. However, these costumes can be considered hazards. Especially considering Halloween is one of the most reckless holidays; it is easy to add up why such costumes are unsafe for young girls. Unfortunately, we have to consider the fact that not everyone is a nice person and that violence against young girls still occurs.

We have to question the values of companies that manufacture these costumes and hope that they are not parents. I expect that many parents will not allow their daughters to purchase these costumes, but there are always parents who loosely enforce rules, if they do enforce any at all.

If these companies are going for spooky, they certainly gave me the shivers and a scary image that will last me until next Halloween.
