Two weeks ago Jazzman’s Café and Salve’s environmental committee launched their Reusable Mug campaign. The mugs were suggested as a simple way to be more environmentally conscious around campus as well as to reduce coffee cup garbage.

For those caffeine addicts in need of a cup of Jazzman’s before attempting their 100 question exam, these 16 oz. blue mugs are a small change that travels a long way.

Originally the mugs were priced at $9.99, but in order to increase popularity, the mugs are currently on sale for $7.50. Along with being environmentally conscious, students who buy the mugs receive drink discounts. A regular cup of coffee, which is between $1.50 and $2.00, depending on the size, is just $1.00 with the mug. Specialty drinks, which range from $2.50-$5.00, receive a $1.00 discount of their regular price.

According to Jazzman’s employee Marie, the mugs have been quite a success with approximately 14 mugs sold the day they went on sale. Jazzman’s Café employees explain that students have been receptive and excited about the mugs.

Yet, the mugs are just one way that Jazzman’s Café is going green. Coffee sold at Jazzman’s Café is purchased from the Rainforest Alliance. This company is able to trace the coffee from the farmer, to the bean, to the cup of coffee it produces.
