Although it may be hard to believe that only a few weeks remain in the semester, many students are already hard at work writing final papers and putting together presentations. For a number of seniors, thesis deadlines and business project presentations are just around the corner and for everyone else, the dread of final exams is steadily creeping up. While everyone has so many different things going on, one thing stands true for all of us; nobody seems to have enough time for any of it.
To alleviate some of the stress and provide a quiet place to study, the McKillop Library will be extending its hours this year to include being open 24-hours Monday through Thursday during the last two weeks of the semester, with extended hours on weekends. Only the library’s first floor will be open during the extended hours, access to the upstairs will be blocked off. Everyone is urged to take advantage of these extended hours, just be sure to get whatever resources you may need from the second and third floors beforehand.
In the past, the library has always remained open for an extra hour during the week of final exams, but has opted to remain open for 24 hours a day this year after receiving quite a few requests to do so. To make this possible, several students and members of the staff will be employed to work the overnight shifts at the circulation desk. Library officials hope that by staying open for 24 hours, students will experience less stress as final exams approach. Now, if only we could get coffee shops to stay open 24 hours a day.
