As the fall semester winds down, Salve Regina’s Intramural Sports Department is still cranking out sports to keep students active in their free time.
Sign up sheets will be available at the front desk in Rodgers this upcoming week for the next round of sports to take place between Nov. 17 and Christmas break.
As the weather gets colder and daylight savings shortens the days, sports will begin to move indoors.
The next session of sports includes 4v4 co-ed basketball, wiffleball and dodgeball. According to Intramural Coordinator Coach John Egan, these sports will all be played indoors in Rodgers and most likely take place at night.
So far this year sports such as ultimate Frisbee, beach volleyball and golf have all been offered and were a big hit among the students.
Currently, on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays students can be found playing soccer behind Carey mansion or flag football behind O’Hare.
The mission of the Intramural Department is to keep students healthy and active. In a college atmosphere students often turn to lounging in their free time, playing video games, sitting behind a computer and generally being inactive.
Intramural sports provide an outlet for students to get up and get a work out into their day while having fun with their friends.
“Everyone has a great time playing intramurals,” said Scott Fitzgerald, a senior and referee for Intramurals. “Even after a loss or a fight over one of our calls people seem to be really enjoying themselves. Every time I work a game I really wish I was playing instead.”
Intramurals is always looking for input of sports. If you have an idea on a sport that is not offered or would like to get involved in Intramurals contact John Egan by email at john.egan@salve.edu.
