Op-Ed: Damage Done Back To Back

I’ve got a little something to say about the Red Sox…

Disappointed is an understatement for the 2019 Red Sox season. Despite them finishing third in the AL East, they had an awful season, not even making it to the postseason. From 2018, they had a record of 108-54 along with being World Series champions.

You’d think to come off a championship season, the Sox would come back wanting more, a better record, and of course another Commissioner’s Trophy. Wrong. The Red Sox ended their 2019 season with a record of 84-78. I am not impressed.

Towards the end of the season, there were reports going around about free agents. Those players include Rick Porcello, Brock Holt, Steve Pearce, Andrew Cashner, and Mitch Moreland. Mookie Betts will also be a free agent after the 2020 season and will be demanding more money. J.D. Martinez also has the option of opting out of his contract after the World Series.

These players are some of the best guys this franchise has seen and they have been very beneficial to the team, especially last season. If these players are not replaced well enough,it can cause a bigger upset for the team’s future seasons, particularly the bullpen since they have not been hot in a while.

The Red Sox announced that for the 2020 season, ticket prices will increase 1.7 percent compared to the 2019 season. Looks like the Student 9’s offer will become the Student 99’s. After an unsatisfying season and the possibility of losing the team’s best players, will anyone really want to go to Fenway Park?

Last season, the theme was “Do Damage” and after completing their mission, it was “Damage Done”. Trust me, damage was done to the Red Sox nation this season and the damage will continue into next season.
