Looking For Parking?

NEWPORT- Sorry, the lot’s full. For many visitors to Newport, R.I. during a major event such as this weekend’s boat show, this is the case. Parking in downtown Newport close to the Brick Market Place can be crammed, limited, and above all else, expensive.

Last year, I attended the Newport Music Festival during the summer, unaware it would take over an hour and a half to find one spot.

Driving along the fast-paced highway, cars passed hurriedly by me clearing the road ahead. The empty road, the expanse of highway, left for me to drive over as fast or as slow as I desired. Glancing in the rearview mirror, I saw smiles on the faces of people I love; I felt the warmth of hot summer days that turned into warm moonlit nights.

I’m not exactly what you would call a “girly-girl.” I don’t fuss around with my hair, I hardly wear make-up (unless of course Bonne Bell Lip Smackers in Strawberry Crush counts) and high heels give me nightmares. My daily wardrobe is strictly Levi Jeans, a t-shirt and a comfy pair of Chuck Taylors.

Following in the Salve tradition of successful sailing teams, the members of this year’s 2008-2009 squad have their eyes on the prize. After teaming up with Brown University and The New York Yacht club to co-host The Intercollegiate Women’s Team Racing and Coed Sailing Nationals this summer, junior captain Torey Pellegrini says that participating in the Nationals next year is this season’s primary goal.
