For many people, the holiday season is the most special time of the year. The anticipation of
snow, the excitement of getting a warm, festive Starbucks cup—the holiday season is the only time of year that emphasizes over-sized sweaters, sparkly anythings, and fuzzy onesies. For those that favor the holiday season over the rest, one look at Salve’s campus is enough to get you in the holiday spirit. At Salve, it wouldn’t be time for the holidays without lights and decorations hung up around campus.
This year, Miley hall is featuring snow-frosted pinecone baskets that add nice touches to counter tops, as well as wreaths hung on the pillars that are topped with red bows. Some campus favorites include the unmissable lit-up wreaths that are hung on either side of the “Salve Regina University” sign at the gates of Ochre Court. Inside Ochre Court sits a tall Christmas tree that was lit at the annual Festival of Lights. It features a silver and white ornament theme that pairs beautifully with the vibes of the season.
Of course, we all know that the holiday season hasn’t officially begun until the string lights at Ochre Court go up. The trees that line the pathway to the gorgeous mansion are now wrapped-up in lights like a present, ultimately leading up to the wreath over the court’s front doors.
Some on-campus homes are decked out in lights, too. Salve students like to decorate the doors to their apartments and dorms following a different theme every year. Rodgers Recreation Center features some decorated doors on the bottom level of the building. Many buildings on campus, including Miley, O’Hare, and McAuley, have Angel Trees that are put up on campus every year. The Angel Trees are decorated in pretty lights as well as name tags of children that are in need of a gift this year. These tags are meant to be taken off by Salve students so they can purchase a gift for that particular child.
It’s really no surprise that the holiday season is Salve’s favorite time of year. The gates of Ochre Court never fail to make for an Insta-worthy photo.
