Mosaic Staff Writer,Salve Regina students took a bite out of the Big Apple during a Campus Activities Board sponsored trip to the New York City Ballet performance of a Christmas classic, “The Nutcracker”.

Fifty students attended the matinee performance on Sunday December 2nd at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. The ballet, created by George Balanchine in 1892, was New York City Ballet’s first full-length ballet in 1954. The popular performance includes over 80 dancers and a full orchestra pit, enchanting the audience of all ages with its whimsical story line and captivating choreography.

“The special effects were really unique,” said sophomore Ashley Gaule. “Especially when the snow was falling- it was so realistic!”

After the performance, students were able to explore the city for a few hours. Some students went to Times Square and went shopping, while others went to Rockefeller Center to see the famous Christmas tree.

CAB sponsors a trip to New York City once or twice a year, usually during the holiday season. Last year, Salve students were given the opportunity to see the Rockettes.

“[The trips] give students an opportunity to explore and experience something they might never get to, which is really cool,” said Gaule.

“I like the CAB trips because it’s cheap, something new and fun,” said sophomore Sydney Tortorici. “I think another cool trip would be to see something on Broadway, like ‘Wicked’ or ‘The Lion King’.”
