It was only four years ago when we were pulling up to our respective residence halls. Some of us looked up with joy and excitement at the buildings that stood towering above us.
Some of us stood in amazement in front of Hunt/Reefe- this meant that we got our own bathrooms! There was Narragansett. We got to live in a mansion! Some lived in Watts Sherman, a cool, haunted mansion. The rest of who pulled up to the 60s style, multi shingled residence hall of Miley.
There were those of us who had never seen Miley and thought to ourselves, “Wait- there must be some mistake- this isn’t the mansion that overlooked the ocean that I had chose on the housing form!” Then there were those of us that knew exactly what Miley looked like and the only thing that we could say was, “Man -we should have hounded our parents day and night to send in our deposits sooner!”
Regardless of where we lived our freshman year, we made the best of it and made friends and memories that made living even in Miley worth it.
Now it’s all coming to an end. Our carefree days as freshmen are only a
memory and its time that we face the world. The world of real jobs and real salaries; a world where we can’t skip a day of work just because we don’t feel like going or because it’s too nice to be inside all day. Before we are forced out of our secure world of college, we have one more shot at hanging out with out friends and doing what we college student do best…party!
Senior week is coming up and this is our last shot at attending the events that Salve has to offer us. Beginning with the Senior Brunch on May 10 at 11 a.m., held in the Miley cafeteria where we ate our first meal at Salve, it seems only right that we grab a table with all of our friends and eat our last meal at the same (but remodeled) place. Then, later that evening, seniors have the chance to do what we do best, aside from conducting stimulating conversations about the newest released Nobel prize winning book- socializing! Hit up the Garden where
Those Guys will be playing, and remember, this event is for Salve seniors only!
After recuperating from a night at the Garden, we have the chance to spend Tuesday relaxing at the PawSox game and then getting our groove on while trying in vain to win enough money at Mohegan Sun to pay off our student loans!
On Wednesday, you and a guest can choose to enjoy a lobster, steak or vegetarian dish while perusing with friends over drinks with fun umbrellas, enjoyable activities and jamming tunes from the DJ at the Salve Clambake at Kempenaar’s Clambake Club.
Then it’s the big event, the event that everyone (well mostly the girls) has been waiting for -it’s the senior prom of college, Commencement Ball! This is the time where you can get dressed up to dance, drink and have a great time with your friends.
On Friday there is the Senior Cocktail Reception held in the Young Building, and then the real events begin.
On Saturday, all the fun and games stop and the events we have all worked so hard for four years begin. We will get our cords and hear our Valedictorian give her speech at the Baccalaureate Mass and the awards ceremony. Then, it’s off to socialize with our parents and friends before the big day, Sunday.
Sunday is the day where we sport our cap and gowns, walk across the stage to recieve our diploma and then get ushered off to the lawn in front of McKillop to take a million pictures with our family and friends.
Well Salve, it’s been a great four years…I’ve enjoyed writing for the paper and I’ve enjoyed the friends and family that I have made here. Good Luck to everyone and Salve…it’s been a blast!
