Seniors Prepare for the Big Day!

By Kelsey Murray –

Salve’s annual senior graduation fair was hosted in Ochre Court on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 2-5 p.m. The fair is intended to assist seniors in their journey to the graduation stage. Ochre housed tables with representatives from Student Activities, Career Development, and even the bookstore so students could order their cap and gown. May is creeping in quickly.

As an added bonus, for the seniors who attended the fair, slowly trickling in and out over the three hours, refreshments were served They were offered pizza, soda and brownies.

While the Bookstore was busy with cap and gown measurements, another table offered samples of the 2012 class rings, hosting a raffle for $150 off of the ring of the student’s choice.

Career Development was also very useful, handing out fliers to students, encouraging them to make an appointment, as many of the services in the Career Development offices are unknown to students. Among these services, students can meet with someone to discuss their future job opportunities, graduate school options, perfect their resume and much more. All of these services can be accessed through Salve Regina Gateway.

One of the busiest booths was the booth for Commencement week, the one that all the seniors were excited about. This table, along with providing information about the senior week activities, provided the paperwork to sing up for those events. The important paperwork included information about pricing and events for the seniors’ last week before graduation. The events for the week include Commencement Ball, Mohegan Sun trip, Clambake and Night at Pelham. Payments for each event can be handed in to Student Activities.

“Graduating is bittersweet,” said Christina Farrington, a senior marketing major. “I am really excited for the end of the year activities though.”

Her roommate, Stephanie Moots, agrees, “I don’t want to graduate but I am really excited for how many fun things we get to do.”

“My favorite event will definitely be the Commencement Ball or the cocktail party,” said Lindsey Cavallaro, a senior nursing major.

As if hosting a graduation fair was not enough, the fair assisted students further with a non-profit fair in the room next door, as if to help graduating seniors through the door into the working world.
