Are you unsatisfied with the school cafeteria hours? Do you want a new student center? Are you concerned with the lack of lighting on the Salve campus?

On Tuesday, October 26 at 8:00pm, Student Government will be holding an open forum for Salve students. This meeting, open to the general public, will take place in the Fireplace Lounge in the Wakehurst Student Center, and promises to be an important event for all who attend Salve.

Through the open forum, any student who attends Salve is offered a place to relay any concern about the school to Student Government leaders, and be assured that their problems will be addressed with the appropriate organization or staff member.

Student Government wants to stress that this forum is open to all students in all grades, and that their complaints and ideas will be addressed in a fully impartial environment.

An open forum was held last year, and was highly successful, says Robert Pesapane, a junior and a member of SGA for two years.

“The major issue last year was the majority of on-campus students being concerned with the meal plan and quality of the food. SGA referred these concerns to its meal plan committee who took up the student’s complaints with Sodexho.”

Members of Student Government are hoping for a large turnout to this year’s open forum. Students this year seem to be excited by the chance to discuss their issues with people who can fix them.

Kirsten Babich, a freshman at Salve, is pleased that there is a place where her concerns will be heard.

“The open forum is a wonderful opportunity for Salve students to communicate with the student council and have their voices heard.”

Major issues this year with students thus far seem to be issues with the meal plan, outdated facilities, and a mediocre student center.

Jessica Murphy, chair of the SGA publicity committee, sums it up best when she says, “As elected representatives of the students, it is vital that we are able to get input from them. This forum will allow us to direct our efforts and better serve the Salve community.”
